This image, the first of several that will be shared, was captured by Bill Bonnes on October 27, 1963 and provided by Tara (Bonnes) Doyle.
This photo was taken from Lincoln St looking west (the Bickett Funeral Home is behind and to the right) and Hartford Ave is the intersection straight ahead. In the distance ahead, one block west, you can see the continuation of Lincoln St. The house on the south side of Lincoln St faces east and is on the west side of Essex Ave.
The white building/roof that is seen on the right side is the Vo-Ag / Home Economics building. The school house is visible on the left side of the photo.
This photo also documents some other history. Mrs. Verna Davis, long-time Farragut elementary teacher and her husband Tom lived in a house that was located at the intersection of Lincoln St and Hartford Ave. In this photo, that house has already been removed and Lincoln St has been converted to a discontinuous street.
In 1958 when Harold Dinsmore joined the Farragut faculty, the Vo Ag / Home Economics building was in place and the Davis house was still there. Harold shared that teachers parked along Lincoln Street. When the Davis house was removed and Lincoln St was interrupted (dates unknown), the space was ready for the construction of the new additions during 1963-64.
