Webster: defines "archive" as a place in which public records or historical materials are preserved, or the material that is stored in such a place.

That is what makes this website special. It is an “archive” filled with information, photos, news articles and other information dedicated solely to the community, school and people of Farragut, Iowa. No games, advertisements or other distractions. Only an archive containing facts and history regarding the community of Farragut, Iowa.

A little housekeeping to help you gain the most from your use of the site.
Site design is tailored specifically for "ease of use." You do not have to waste your time determining  how the system works. A simple "click" on a button takes you to any location a piece of information is stored.

Let’s start with a simple introduction to the menu buttons.

HOME will always take you to the opening page. You followed the suggestion on the WELCOME button on the home page and that is how you ended up here. It was the logical move to make on the home page. And that is the formula behind the site navigation system. Every move is designed to feel like the natural move to make. No hunting for buttons or other methods of navigation to waste your time.

At the bottom of this page and throughout the site you will see this list of navigation buttons.

HOME, ROOTS, SPORTS, MUSIC, PHOTO GALLERY, FAIR WINDS, THOUGHTS?, HELP, SUBMISSIONS

ROOTS is the home page for the Farragut Story. This information is divided into two groups: HISTORY and DECADES. Many stories regarding the history of the community starting in the 1800s will be found following a click on the HISTORY button. Clicking on DECADES takes you to a page of clickable buttons representing every decade, 1800, 1900, 1910, 1920 and on through today’s decade 2020. Clicking each button takes you to a list of stories for a particular set of ten years. You will notice there a few decades whose buttons are very short. The short buttons indicate nothing is available for that decade. (Perhaps you are the person to provide the needed information.)

SPORTS leads to a master menu page containing an ADMIRALS and ADMIRALETTES buttons. Clicking on either takes you to a master menu for either boys or girls sports. On the ADMIRALS menu page you will find clickable buttons for TRACK, BASEBALL and FOOTBALL. On the ADMIRALETTES page are expanded stories and photos of the fabulous girls' basketball team.

MUSIC button takes you to a menu page with BAND, CHOIR, Arts/plays clickable buttons.

PHOTO GALLERY takes you to, you guessed it, a photo gallery. All photos are labelled with their own blue clickable button. Clicking these will take you to anything on the site associated with that photo.

FAIR WINDS is a special button as it takes you to a menu page of blue “name plates” each representing a graduate who has crossed the Rainbow Bridge into Heaven. The individuals name and Class appear on the clickable nameplate. They are arranged from the earliest death at the top of the list to the latest death on the bottom of the list. Clicking on a person’s name takes you to a personal page containing a photo and obituary. If an obituary is not available for an individual, a little white circle with an (X) in it indicates an obituary is not available for that individual.

THOUGHTS? Takes you to a discussion page. It is also a great place to post a link to an article you have written.

HELP takes you to a page explaining where and what kind of help you will find available to you.

SUBMISSIONS takes you to a page dedicated to help you submit photos and stories to the site.

Throughout the site you will find forms for your use in submitting stories and photos. You are urged to do so. That picture in the back of a drawer is not doing anything more than taking up space. Please share it with all of us so we can learn and enjoy another piece of fantastic Farragut history. After all, that is the purpose of an archive. You are the key to its success.

Should you have any questions or comments, use one the forms included within the site. Or if you prefer email, use any of the email addresss listed in the footer of each page.

Please enjoy and learn from this electronic archive. Add any appropriate information you have access to. Working together, we can tell the history of a dynamic little community that has contributed so much to each of our lives.

Now, let the adventure begin.
