Kenneth O. Durfey, son of George F. and Charlotte E. (Bopp) Durfey, was born October 25, 1918 in Taylor County, south of Bedford, Iowa. When a young boy he moved with his family to rural Farragut where he attended elementary school and graduated from high school in the class of 1937.
On February 18, 1938, Kenneth was united in marriage with Lola May Livingston at Clarinda, Iowa and to this union one daughter, Marilyn Kay and three sons, Larry, Ronald and Dwight, were born. Following their marriage they made their home in Farragut.
In December of 1943, Kenneth entered the US Navy and served during World War II until his discharge in January 1946. Following his military service he returned to Farragut and was employed at Knittle’s Grocery in Shenandoah. He later worked for Orvis Moody Construction of Hamburg and the Farragut Community Schools. Following his retirement in 1983 he was employed part time at James Grocery in Farragut.
He was a member of the Farragut Methodist Church, Shenandoah American Legion Post #88, and had received his Fellow Craft Degree from the Friendship Masonic Lodge #379 of Farragut.
He had many hobbies which kept him busy after his retirement, some of which were woodworking, photography, flowers and gardening. He also enjoyed being with family and the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, daughter Marilyn Kay and sister Oma Dalton.
He is survived by his wife Lola May of Farragut; 3 sons, Larry and wife Marian of Farragut, Ronald and wife Cynthia of Whitbourne, Newfoundland, Dwight and wife Connie of Lexington, MO; 9 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Harold A. Durfey and wife Mary Jane of Neola, IA; a number of other relatives and many friends.
